It will also be sent via email about 24 hrs. before the session \nContact: Eli McCarthy\, emccarthy@dcpeaceteam.org\nThis training focuses on effective skills for assessing\, de-escalating\, and diffusing a harmful or inappropriate behavior (bullying\, harassment\, physical violence) in situations when ICE may arrive. It provides participants with the tools they need to quickly recognize when they are bystanders\, evaluate the consequences for everyone involved\, and take action. Our training sessions promote nonviolent alternative approaches for defusing harmful situations and engaging with the aggressor and those subject to harmful acts.\n\n\n*This advanced session will focus on the strategy of developing early response to ICE situations. It will include but not be limited to strategy for preparing to protect immigrants at a sensitive location\, such as a school or religious community. \nObjectives:\n1) Increased awareness of active bystander intervention examples\n2) Learning about ICE and situational awareness\n3) Strategic tactics to mitigate harm during ICE incursions. \nPayment is requested on a sliding scale. SUMMARY:Intro to Unarmed Civilian Protection
DESCRIPTION:Unarmed Civilian Protection and Accompaniment is a methodology for teams that offer direct protection of civilians and others\, reduction of hostility\, re-humanization of parties\, as well as increasing local peace infrastructures. This workshop will be largely experiential and learning-by-doing. The skills learned can be modified and applied in many facets of life\, including political demonstrations\, local events\, accompaniment of those in danger\, neighborhood conflicts\, and international conflicts. \nObjectives:\n1) Sharing experiences of unarmed protection and accompaniment\n2) An increased awareness of the orientation\, strategies\, methods\, and impact of unarmed civilian protection\n3) Acquiring skills by role-playing how peace teams use these strategies and tactics in local community conflicts

Chapman’s Five Love Languages has been a model for understanding the language of our significant other. This session reveals the psychological foundations for unhealthy communication which can challenge people’s sense of safety and security in the world and compromise their identity which informs their relationship choices. Abuse or neglect towards partners can be one of these outcomes. We will focus on language preferences that intentionally or unintentionally cause harm through manipulation\, deceit\, or control. Alternate ways of effectively communication will be visited and demonstrated. \nObjectives:\n1)    Awareness – raise awareness of effective communication\n2)    Insight – Review typical communication styles that produce harm\n3)    Skills – learn how to support families/friends/colleagues/neighbors that are in abusive relations\n4)    Provide resources for partner violence situations
